September 21 and 22, 2026
Program
Shin-hee Chin is a Korean American fiber and mixed-media artist and professor based in Kansas. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including at the Textile Museum in Washington, DC; the Metropolitan Art Museum in Tokyo; and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Deoksugung Palace, Seoul. We are pleased to welcome her and hear her lecture "Threads of Thought: Art, Quilt, and the Human Hand".
Workshop
Shin Lee Chin will present a workshop that spans two days, giving us time to explore and conquer a random weave and stitch a tree project as she provides hands-on tutoring. Details of this workshop will be forthcoming.
Supply List:
Everyone should bring an assortment of #5 Perle cotton
The following materials are recommended. If you have similar items, feel free to bring them.
• basting needles, size 7
• assorted hand embroidery needles including various sizes of chenille, darning, or tapestry
• 5 felt sheets - 8x12 inch (approximate price in stores is $.32 each)
• scraps of fabric
Batting scraps will be provided, but you are welcome to bring any that you have.
October 19, 2026
Program
Jean Farish, a counted cross-stitch designer, will inform us of her personal journey and give an overview of pulled thread techniques which have spanned cultures and centruries.
Workshop
Our afternoon workshop project is "Kindness", featuring the pulled thread technique. 2.5 inches x 4.75 inches
Supply List
Kit includes: 28 count linen, thread
Bring: basic stitching supplies, hoop, needles, scissors (especially if you have cutwork specialty scissors), lighting and magnification if needed
November 16, 2026
Program
Chris' lecture will be a presentation of Redwork quilts. She will be bringing several examples from her personal collection of antique quilts. She is a certified quilt appraiser and has judged many quilt shows.
Workshop:
Creat a HEG folded fabric ornametnt
Supply List
Kit includes styrofoam ball, fabric preembroidered with HEG logo, pins

Program
Our very own beading expert, Linda Mezney, will take us on a "Walk Through the World of Beading" as she shows examples and relates tales of her own beading journey.
Workshop:
Linda will guide us in a workshop to make scissor fobs using beads and fishing
line. You provide your own scissors.
Supply List
Kit includes Delica beads, Fireline, beading needles, tubing, bead mat
Bring: cheap scissors lighting and magnification if needed
February 15, 2027
Program
Salley Mavor is a felt and fiber artist who works in miniature 3-D. Her work is the
illustration in several charming children’s books. Her creations have been exhibited in several museums. We will have the pleasure of her company via Zoom.
Workshop:
Linda and Chris will lead this felted ornament process.
Supply List
Kit includes wool, threads, pattern printed on stick and stitch

March 15, 2027
Program
A trunk show of English smocking presented by our very own, Chris Holmes. The follow-up to this talk will be the project at our May retreat at Lutherdale, a smocked pin cushion.
Workshop
Andrea Sapon is a fiber artist, mixed-media designer, and long-time member of the Madison Area Embroiderers’ Guild. She
will guide us through her technique of yarn weaving around a paper core to create a beautiful bowl. Andrea would like a list of class participants by Dec 1 so that she can shop for specific yarn colors per student request. The workshop will have a zoom follow up 10 days after our workshop so she can show us how to finish our woven bowl.

Program
Judy Caruso's areas of specialty are Brazilian Dimensional Embroidery, Surface Embroidery, and Hardanger. Judy teaches many of her own designs as well as beginner-level surface embroidery stitches. Residing in the Madison WI area, she has taught throughout the US including for the Brazilian Dimensional Embroidery International Guild and the Embroiderers’ Guild of America.
Workshop
Her workshop design is called ‘Mini Beauty’ for which you will learn basic
techniques of Brazilian Embroidery.

Kit includes fabric with design, thread, needles and needle threader
Bring: basic stitching supplies, 5-8 inch hoop, needles, scissors lighting and magnification if needed
May 17-19, 2027
Retreat
Celebrate time away with your friends and embrace your love of stitching. No
cooking or dishes, just needles and thread. Two hours away awaits a beautifully appointed hotel style retreat center on the shore of Lake Lauderdale. More detail will be forth coming as we draw nearer the date.
Workshop:
Learn basic smocking as you use surface embroidery over pre-pleated fabric to create a smocked pin cushion. Pleated fabric, mini piping, floss and backing, and smocking design will be provided. Kits will be of various colors. Provide your own favorite embroidery needle and thimble if desired. This is a follow-up to the March presentation with Chris Holmes.
