The Eliza Anne Marlett Sampler

by Nancy Johnson and Libby Sturdy

When visiting Nancy Sturgeon's home last spring, we saw many historical samplers. This sampler, The Eliza Ann Marlett Sampler, stitched in 1838, can be found in the historical collection at the Aurora, IL. museum. It was originally created by a stitcher living in Illinois. Libby and Nancy will share historical information about this sampler.

Nancy Sturgeon has a blog post about starting this sampler reproduction that you might find of interest: https://nsturgeon.blogspot.com/2010/03/starting-outan-illinois-sampler.html

WonderFil Embroidery Threads

We are thrilled that Stephanie Ngai from WonderFil  Threads will be speaking to us about threads to use for wool appliqué and embroidery.  She will show how different weights of the same thread will change the look of your project.  She will also discuss the use of rayon and metallic threads.  Examples of her work will be shown.  This should provide excellent additional information and options to use when working on your year-long embroidery project.  Stephanie will be making her presentation to us via Zoom.
